About Us
We love the name Known Ministries because when we are fully known and we find that we are still fully loved, the comfort and change we long for can finally come. We have degrees, certifications, training, and experience in theology, education, biblical counseling, trauma, storywork, and we are continually learning. Regardless of your profession or season of life, we want to help you connect your story to God’s story. We want you to see transformation in your own life and then be inspired and equipped to invite others to the same transformation you have experienced. Known Ministries is Brenda Payne and Alex Kocher.
Alex Kocher may have been born up north, but she’s picked up all the warmth and charm of a true Southerner. Brenda jokes that Alex is the fine cheese and wine to her beer-and-brats style—and honestly, she’s not wrong.
Alex is a lifelong learner with a deep love for understanding God, people, and the stories that shape us. She holds a Master’s degree and many certifications. But more than any formal education, Alex will tell you that the most transformative classroom has been the long journey of chronic pain. It’s where endurance, character, and hope were formed in ways she never expected.
She’s deeply devoted to the local church and calls Montgomery, Alabama home. Alex and her husband, Mason, have two adult daughters who continue to be one of her greatest joys. You can find out more about her counseling practice at Flourish Counseling.
Brenda Payne is known for her “otter” personality—playful, curious, and full of contagious zest for life. She thrives on deep conversations shared over good coffee and long walks. Shaped by her own story and God’s sustaining grace, Brenda’s transparency makes her easily approachable as she brings comfort and clarity to both sinner and sufferer. With more than 20 years of ministry experience and over 50 years of walking with Jesus alongside other believers, she is passionate about helping women build spiritual friendships and grow in confidence and competence as they care well for one another. Brenda and her husband, Paul, make their home in Chattanooga, TN, and have three adult children, two wonderful in-laws, and soon-to-be five delightful grandchildren.
